Land of the Free, Because of the Brave
Team TransCor,
As we enter Independence Day weekend in America, I’m reminded of a favorite line from our National Anthem. At our best, we truly are “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” And as the song suggests, the concepts of liberty and bravery go hand-in-hand.
Our nation’s founders rightly understood that their pursuit of freedom would compel them into difficult circumstances; most notably, taking on their world’s largest superpower in what would become the Revolutionary War. Nevertheless, they made the sacrifice on behalf of the generations that would come after them.
On a personal note, it was the greatest honor of my life to serve in the United States Armed Forces and retire honorably as a Marine. During that time, I witnessed countless men and women exemplifying bravery to help secure the freedom of others. Nearly every veteran and countless other public servants have a similar testimony.
In my role at TransCor, I see dedication to those same American values every day. The men and women who answer the call to serve in corrections have a uniquely personal perspective on the values of freedom and bravery. Similar to CoreCivic, TransCor is an integral part of thousands’ journeys to re-entry and freedom. Preventing victimization, transporting to hearings, and relocating to safe housing are but a few of the ways we help the re-entry process. But on a deeper level, the respect, dignity, and care that our team extends to those in difficult circumstances makes an immeasurable difference. By bravely serving, you help others move toward their own eventual freedom.
May you all have a happy and safe Independence Day, understanding that the freedom we enjoy is due to the brave sacrifices of others.
Sincerely,
Curtiss D. Sullivan
