Celebrating Juneteenth

Juneteenth

Team TransCor,

This coming Wednesday, June 19th, is Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.  A celebration of the day in 1865 when news of the Civil War’s end and the abolishment of slavery in the United States reached enslaved people in Texas — two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

At one time in our nation's history, the luxury of opportunity was not a given for everyone who lived in this country. Juneteenth is a celebration of perseverance, courage, and the empowerment to transform lives and society during uncertain times. I encourage all of us to join in this important conversation and learn more about the history we all share.

As many of you know, Dr. Maya Angelou was a world-famous writer, activist, and poet who had a talent and fondness for capturing the most precious moments of human connection. Her writings have touched the hearts of readers around the globe. To paraphrase a quote by Dr. Angelou, "When you know better, do better." What a great message and reminder for us all.

Happy Juneteenth!

Sincerely,

Curt Sullivan
