Honoring the Heroes Who Serve in Corrections

Dear Team TransCor,

Throughout this week, we take pride in celebrating National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. Together, we honor those who have committed a career toward the singular mission of corrections — protecting others. It’s a noble and heroic calling, but it’s one that often happens out of sight of society and thus rarely gets the full praise it deserves.

This week is truly about recognizing and honoring both corrections officers and all those who work in the field of corrections. The field of corrections is the product of a diverse range of professionals working in an array of positions. Correctional employees include frontline staff, transportation, medical professionals, administrators, counselors, social workers, teachers, dietitians, mechanics, and so many more. We are all corrections professionals, and we all work as one. 

National Nurses Week is also appropriately celebrated this week. Often described as an art and a science, nursing is a profession that is embraced by dedicated people with varied interests, strengths, and passions. We are extremely fortunate to have one of the very finest correctional nurses, RN Vivian Marsh, on our team. 

Unquestionably, the mission of corrections and nursing is filled with challenges. Such is the obvious nature of the profession and the gravity of what’s at stake. Nevertheless, heroism never comes easy. Daily they work under demanding and sometimes very difficult circumstances, often facing danger in their everyday lives. We humbly acknowledge and honor the important work they perform each day and the sacrifices they make to protect the communities where we live, work and travel. They are heroes, and we're filled with a profound sense of gratitude to work alongside each of them.
