Dear Team TransCor,

April is Second Chance Month. It is a special time when our nation focuses on lifting up those who are taking meaningful steps to safely and productively re-enter society as well as those who work tirelessly to support them on their re-entry journeys. We honor both groups — those re-entering and those lending aid.

Every year, more than 600,000 Americans are released from incarceration. Their transition back into free society is often challenging. In addition to tremendous mental, emotional, and behavioral impacts, they also face many barriers to daily life, such as finding safe housing, reliable transportation, productive employment, obtainable health care, and more. It takes tremendous effort and dedication to succeed, and we wholeheartedly honor those who are committed to that end.

Meanwhile, countless organizations, teams, and individuals, including CoreCivic on many levels, are working 24/7 to help guide, protect, train, and encourage these men and women. Successful re-entry into society requires the unfailing commitment of an army of support. This level of sacrifice and advocacy is among the noblest of callings, and we’re grateful to those who have made it their lives’ work.

During Second Chance Month, we also seek to shine a light on the areas of our society where unnecessary barriers to re-entry may exist. Safe incarceration, effective treatment, accessibility to education, career training, community corrections, transitional services, and more are all important ways in which we and our parent company work to reduce recidivism. A holistic approach — one where we see all parts working together to support the continuum of care — is the key. It is our hope in the days to come that such experiences and resources would become even more commonplace throughout our nation. It’s an investment worth making.

We believe in second chances, and we are committed to reducing recidivism to support the safety and security of all.
