On Memorial Day

Dear Team TransCor,

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well.

Like many of you, I usually really enjoy this time of year. For many reasons, Memorial Day weekend is among my favorites. I enjoy visiting historical battlefields, being on the lake, and catching up with family and friends.

During the past few Memorial Day weekends, my son and I have enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail. The AT is a hiking trail in the Eastern United States extending between Springer Mountain, Georgia, and Mount Katahdin, Maine. We look forward to the amazing peaceful beauty of Mother Nature and the pure joy of uninterrupted time together.

Understandably, this year will be different for all of us. Regardless, it's important that we remember the true meaning of this special holiday.

Next Monday, May 25th, 2020, is Memorial Day... A day when we pause to remember our fallen heroes: the men and women who answered the call of freedom and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Traditionally, towns and cities of all sizes across the United States hold parades on Memorial Day to honor the fallen.

This year, restrictions unlike any our country has experienced before, necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic, will cause many traditional activities to be postponed or cancelled. Therefore, Memorial Day will likely be celebrated much differently this year than it has been in the past. Recognizing those suffering or lost during this health crisis makes this year's socially distanced Memorial Day observation even more heart wrenching.

Whether you are assigned to duty, working around the house, putting in a garden, enjoying a family barbeque, or just relaxing, please remember why we celebrate this holiday: to honor the brave men and women who have given the highest sacrifice for our freedom. Without their heroic commitment and actions, we would not be able to enjoy the many freedoms we have today.

As we extend our most sincere appreciation to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country, let their selfless devotion, outstanding courage and honor inspire us to make their sacrifice meaningful. #NeverForgotten

I sincerely wish you a safe and relaxing Memorial Day weekend.
